ClassGraphic Agatha Christie continues to be the most popular novelist of all time, with her books having sold over a billion copies in English and a billion in translation. She is known for her detective novels and short story collections, as well as the world’s longest-running play – The Mousetrap. In this study group, we will read and discuss some of what are considered to be her best novels, to see if we can identify what has caused this enduring popularity. We will begin with Christie’s most famous detectives - Hercule Poirot in The Murder of Roger Ackroyd (Harper Collins, 2021), followed by Miss Marple in A Murder Is Announced (Harper Collins, 2022). Then we will move on to some of her stand-alone novels - Murder Is Easy (Harper Collins, 2011), Sparkling Cyanide (Harper Collins, 2012), and Crooked House (Harper Collins, 2011). We will finish with the bestselling mystery novel of all time - And Then There Were None (Harper Collins, 2011). For our study group, any edition of the books may be used, and all are available from the library, local bookstores, and online. Join us as we delve into the works of this “Queen of Crime”!
