Weekly discussions about this correspondence will reveal the impact of the personal letter as an art form, an historical record, and a window into the human soul. Highlights will include the rich correspondence between Abigail and John Adams, Mahatma Gandhi’s plea to Adolph Hitler to stop the impending world war, Frida Kahlo’s passionate missive to Diego Rivera, Martin Luther King Jr.’s eloquent letter from Birmingham Jail, and Julia Child’s unapologetic obsession with French butter…. plus many more. Each week a member will cover letters relating to a specific topic. Whether you love history, literature, or simply “eavesdropping” on the personal lives of famous people, join us to explore the written words that shaped lives, sparked revolutions, and connect us across centuries.
