Visual Arts is populated by historic and modern figures of astounding imagination, creativity, and mystery. Painting, sculpture, photography, architecture, movements, and creative techniques touch everyone's lives. Because art depends on the appreciation of the observer, it is always possible to bring a new, personal perspective to its study. Volunteer presenters develop talking points on a chosen subject using a mix of still images and video, with coordinators assisting in content preparation as needed. Even if this is your first art-related class, our thoughtful discussions will explore how art fits into the history of its time, whether it represents fact or fiction, when it acts as a message delivery mechanism, and how the artist’s original intent compares to the meaning we place on the work today. The coordinators present the initial subjects of the curriculum while welcoming participant suggestions based on personal interest. There are no prerequisites for this course. Potential Topics: Ancient art, Encaustic, Italian Futurism, Art Glass, Botticelli, Christo & Jeanne-Claude, Art Critics, and others.
