The summer blockbuster is a movie that opens everywhere in America at once, and this had never happened before Jaws. Chicago Tribune film critic Michael Phillips will present the summer blockbusters through the years, with some of the biggest summertime hits from Steven Spielberg’s Jaws in 1975 to Barbie and Oppenheimer in 2023.
How has the summer blockbuster changed? Why do we remember these movies so well? Specific blockbusters from different decades will be included: 50 years ago, 20 years ago, 10 years ago, etc.
