The Baldwin/Giovanni Experience and Reception at Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre

The dynamic poeticism of Spoken Word and the piercing directness of Prose are at the forefront of this creatively reinterpreted conversation between extraordinary authors James Baldwin and Nikki Giovanni. Infused with originally composed music, choreography, and mural artwork, this will be an intellectual and artistic journey of a lifetime.

In November of 1971, Baldwin (46) sat down with Giovanni (28), for a conversation of astonishing timeliness. The event was hosted by the PBS television series SOUL! and took place in London. With absolute presence, intellectual communion, and occasional respectful rebuttal, they explored justice, freedom, morality, creativity, Black relationships, and what it means to be an empowered human being.
