Discover with other OLLI members the rich history of Chicago's oldest and most important neighborhoods—Pilsen and Little Village. The story of these two neighborhoods goes back to the late 1800s covering a wide variety of culture, nationalities, and art. From the history of Bohemian Czechs who laid out the streets and gave us the Democratic Machine, to the burgeoning Mexican communities of today. Pilsen and Little Village are part of the reason why everything “Dope” (meaning “awesome” or “cool”) about America comes from Chicago.

Through the acclaimed Mahogany Tours, celebrated Chicago historian Sherman ‘Dilla’ Thomas will take OLLI members by motorcoach through these culturally rich Chicago neighborhoods. He will provide us with a deeper understanding of what these migrant communities have contributed to Chicago and to our nation.

The coach departs from the Chicago Women’s Park, 1801 South Indiana Avenue, promptly at 11:00 am. In order to secure the best seat on the coach, we will meet at the park at 10:45. Street parking is available. Public transportation near the park is available on Michigan Avenue CTA bus routes 1, 3, and 4.
