Under a White Sky: Interventions to Save the Planet

« back to classes page
ClassGraphic Humans have been changing the environment for thousands of years. While much attention has gone to changes we didn't realize we were making, there are many changes that have been intentional—to make our world a better place for humans, for agriculture, even for recreation. The foundational book for this study group will be Under a White Sky by Elizabeth Kolbert. The book explores human interventions to our water, land, and air with a special emphasis on proposed technologic advances and what they might mean for our world. She includes information about the natural cycles of climatic change that occurred before humans made an impact. We will supplement the book readings with TED Talks and current news articles about changes being made and what they mean for our weather and our lives.
