ClassGraphic Nearly half the food produced in the U.S. goes to waste. Every year, millions of families have to make the choice between paying for utilities and medicine or food. It is an all too common problem that exists across the country as well as in our own backyard. It is a problem that has been compounded due to the rise in unemployment caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. How is this possible in one of the world’s wealthiest nations? What innovative strategies are local food pantries adopting to meet the increased need? Nicole Robinson, VP of Community Impact for the Chicago Food Depository, joins us to discuss the challenges faced by many Cook County families to put food on their tables. She’ll shed light on the programs and local community efforts to address the root causes of hunger, end hunger in our community, and bring hope to Chicago area families in need.
