This British Mystery Writers study group will focus on the male authors who wrote in the same period as the Queens of Mystery - Agatha Christie, Dorothy Sayers, Margery Allingham, Ngaio Marsh and Josephine Tey. We will read a book a week and have heavy discussions about setting, characters, plot, writing styles, and the differences between the Men of the Detection Club and the Queens of Mystery. The books we will read are: Malice Aforethought by Anthony Berkeley writing as Frances Iles (Dover Publications, 2018); Hamlet, Revenge by Michael Innes (Penguin Books, 1990); Inspector French’s Greatest Case by Freeman Wills Croft (Collins Crime Club, 2016); Trent’s Last Case by E. C. Bentley (Dover Publications, 1997); A Question of Proof by Nicholas Blake (Rue Morgue, 2008); and The Paddington Mystery by John Rhode (Collins Crime Club, 2018). All books are available in hardcover, paperback and e-book versions.
