« back to classes page
ClassGraphic The end of the baseball season pits the best of the American League against the best of the National League in the October classic. Join us as we discuss America's Pastime from the perspective of the World Series and examine the lives of some of the most celebrated players. We will use as our text World's Greatest Stage: A history of the World Series by Tyler Kepner (Doubleday 2022) in which the author delivers an indelible portrait of baseball’s signature event. He digs deep for some of the most interesting stories dating back to the beginning in 1903, adding insights from Hall of Famers like Reggie Jackson, Mike Schmidt, Jim Palmer, Dennis Eckersley, and many others who have thrived – and failed – when it mattered most. This study group will also explore the 2016 Chicago Cubs and 2005 Chicago White Sox Championship seasons as well as the end of the 2023 MLB season and playoffs.
