Tour the Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures (ISAC-previously known as the Oriental Institute) at the University of Chicago.
Date:  Friday, May 24, 2024
Time:  11:00am-1:00pm, followed by lunch at Baker Commons on campus
Location:  1155 E. 58th Street, Chicago, IL
Logistics:  Chartered bus transportation to and from the event
Join your fellow OLLI members as we explore ISAC, one of the world’s greatest centers for understanding the story of our lives as humans together. Spanning 10,000 years, the Institute’s collections comprise one of the best resources in the world for the archaeology, art, history and languages of Egypt, Nubia, Persia, Mesopotamia, Syria, Anatolia, and the Levant.
This 2 hour visit includes a private guided tour for OLLI members only and a one hour film. The tour focuses on the highlights of the museum collection, which showcase the history, art, and archaeology of the ancient civilizations of west Asia and North Africa.
Exploring these galleries invites us to discover how people thousands of years ago forged a collective identity—confronting, as we do today, issues of autonomy, diversity, and unity.  Afterwards, our bus will take us to Baker Commons on campus where we’ll have lunch together in a private dining room.  The Commons has multiple food stations where you will select your meal. 
Logistics:  Our bus will pick up participants at the Evanston OLLI location at 500 Davis Street.at 9:00 am, then travel to Wieboldt Hall at 339 E. Chicago Ave. on the Chicago campus to pick up additional members at 10:00 am.  It will then proceed to the University of Chicago campus, arriving by 11:00am.  Afterwards, the bus will take us to Baker Commons for lunch. After lunch, at approximately 2:30pm, the bus will depart, stop at Wieboldt Hall, and then return to Evanston.
Cost:  $52 per person. Includes bus transportation to and from the event, admission to the museum, and lunch.
