ClassGraphic Join us for lively discussions of the short stories in Delicate Edible Birds and Other Stories, an entrancing anthology of superb writing that depicts incredibly different women, who are all in the midst of life-changing experiences that happen in an instant, or over a lifetime—or many lifetimes. We will follow Groff’s female characters as they try and try again to achieve the inner strength to exercise their personal freedom—themes relevant to women today. As a collection, the stories are loosely connected by their themes of metamorphosis, as girls grow up, lose their illusions and, often find unexpected happiness. The title story was featured in the Best American Short Stories 2010. We will read two stories weekly, with each story’s discussion led by a study group participant. Lauren Groff is the author of the critically-acclaimed and bestselling novel Fates and Furies. Our text will be Delicate Edible Birds and Other Stories (Hachette Books, 2009).
