CourseGraphic The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act was passed by the 100th United States Congress and signed into law by President Ronald Reagan in 1987. The act provides urgently needed assistance to protect and improve the lives and safety of the homeless. It was amended in 2015 to ensure that homeless children are identified and enrolled in school and have access to the same free, appropriate public education as other youth. Judith Treadway is the McKinney-Vento Parent Liaison for Evanston/Skokie School District 65. She'll join us to talk about the act, how it is administered in District 65, and what individuals can do to support the students it serves. This event is free and open to all current OLLI members. Registration is required.

Speaker: Judith Treadway, MPA is the McKinney-Vento Parent Liaison for Evanston/Skokie School District 65. She has also served on several City of Evanston Committees including the Commission on Aging, and Community & Housing Development Committee. Previously she was a Prevention Program Coordinator for PEER Services, Inc. where she implemented substance abuse prevention programs, life-skills training, and parent workshops.

A Diversity & Inclusion Committee event –  to enhance and expand diversity and inclusion at OLLI.
